ASUS and Noctua technologies come together in one superlative graphics card

ASUS GeForce RTX 3070 Noctua Edition incorporates a pair of state-of-the-art Noctua NF-A12x25 fans to move air over a massive 2.3-slot heatsink developed in partnership between the veteran thermal R&D team at ASUS and engineers at Noctua. These engineers worked together to tune fin density and heat pipe arrangement of the heatsink, optimizing it for the airflow characteristics of the NF-A12x25. To prioritize low noise levels, a smooth acoustic signature, and high cooling performance while making room for this pair of 120 mm fans, the card’s total volume was expanded to occupy 4.3 slots of space.

“Using our extensive thermal R&D experience, we’ve created a new GPU heatsink that’s tailor-made for the performance characteristics of the state-of-the-art NF-A12x25 fans,” said Kent Chien, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of the ASUS Multimedia Business Unit. “Our teamwork gives noise-conscious gamers and Noctua enthusiasts a unique graphics card that maximizes heat dissipation per decibel of noise emitted, all in a package that coordinates perfectly with other Noctua products in a DIY PC.”

This cooperative development process resulted in some of the best thermal performance per decibel of noise emitted of any graphics card on the market. In comparison to the already excellent TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3070 OC Edition, the Noctua Edition produces a 10 dB-lower sound pressure level when controlling for the same power limit, ambient temperature, and thermal junction temperature. Users who are concerned first and foremost about the noise levels and noise characteristics of their system will undoubtedly notice the difference.

Advanced Noctua fan technology makes the NF-A12x25 fan the ideal choice

The NF-A12x25 fan was an easy choice for this project because of the numerous innovations packed into its 120 mm frame. An impeller made from Noctua’s proprietary Sterrox® liquid-crystal polymer has an exceptionally low thermal expansion coefficient, allowing the fan blades to sit just 0.5 mm away from the outer frame. This extremely tight tolerance allows the NF-A12x25 to work more efficiently against back pressure by reducing the leakage of airflow between the blade tips and the outer frame. A metal-reinforced motor hub and axis further support this highly precise gap between impeller and frame.

Furthermore, a custom PWM IC with Smooth Commutation Drive technology reduces fan noise levels at lower speeds. An acoustic profile specifically tuned for a smooth and pleasant character, even against back pressure, is ideal for a GPU heatsink application. Flow Acceleration Channels at the tip of each impeller blade both improve efficiency and lower vortex noise. Inner Surface Microstructures on the fan frame reduce the noise from passing fan blades. ROG Strix LC GeForce RTX 3080 Ti: Chills out under water

To unleash the potential of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GPU, we turned to a solution that PC builders the world over already know and love: we put it under water. This card’s fusion of speed and style starts with an angular shroud and addressable RGB LED accents that shine through bold striations on its surface. This time around, we designed a stealthier metallic accent for the cooling shroud. It largely omits our trademark cybertext accents for a clean look that’s ready to integrate with the colorful lighting, monochrome tones and diverse textures of other ROG hardware. We also enshrouded the fan and lighting cables in the anti-abrasive webbing on each coolant hose for an especially refined presentation.

Underneath the shroud, a custom full-coverage water block transfers heat from the GPU and GDDR6X memory directly into a liquid-cooling loop rather than the inside of the case. Coolant passes through extra-long 600 mm hoses to a 240 mm radiator. The generous length of these hoses, combined with the broad case compatibility of the 240 mm radiator, means that enthusiasts can confidently install ROG Strix LC GeForce RTX 3080 Ti in even the most cavernous enclosures. This versatility lets system builders experiment with the best airflow path for their graphics card’s needs, too. The radiator can be mounted at the top of the case to let exhaust heat bypass the case’s interior entirely, or to the front with the fans configured as intakes to chill the card with the coolest possible airflow.

The liquid-cooling loop is the star of the show for ROG Strix LC GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, but this card would be nothing without its fans. A pair of custom-designed 120 mm units, optimized for both high cubic feet per minute (CFM) and high static pressure, keep plenty of air moving through the dense fins of the remote radiator. A low-noise blower fan under the card’s shroud cools a low-profile heatsink to ensure those crucial components stay cool under stock or overclocked loads. ROG Strix LC GeForce RTX 3080 Ti also the card’s fan-control intelligence to be extended to two case fans using a pair of our trademark FanConnect II headers. Rather than using a rising CPU or motherboard temperature as an imperfect proxy for increases in GPU temps, the FanConnect II headers can monitor the temperature of the graphics processor itself to increase airflow right when it’s needed for optimal temperatures over long gaming sessions.

ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070 Ti: Take air cooling to new heights

ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3070 Ti boast all of our latest refinements and innovations in air cooling. A massive 2.9-slot heatsink comes wrapped in an aggressively angular shroud with a full-length addressable RGB LED array on the left edge for a look that’s undeniably fresh yet unmistakably ROG. The new look extends to the full-length metallic backplate, where contrasting textures and subtle monochrome shades surround an eminently functional cooling cut-out that allows heated exhaust airflow to rise into the case’s natural airflow path.

Three fans built using our latest axial-tech design spin in a counter-rotating pattern to deliver a smooth, directed stream of air through the high-surface-area fin stack. Higher blade counts on each fan increase both static pressure and the CFM of airflow available, all without undesirable increases in noise levels. Notched barrier rings on the outer two fans and a solid barrier ring on the central fan further manage turbulence and ensure that cooling air consistently reaches the hottest parts of the heatsink for the lowest temperatures and highest performance. At idle, the fans drop into a 0 dB mode that helps to minimize the system’s noise levels, while FanConnect II headers allow case fans deliver a blast of cool air right when it’s needed.

Ampere graphics cards deliver a large performance-per-watt improvement compared to their predecessors. To fully exploit these improvements, they can draw more power overall. The massive ROG Strix heatsink and a carefully designed PCB allow us to support that improved performance with large amounts of raw electrical power. Up to three eight-pin PCI Express® (PCIe®) power connectors draw current directly from the PSU for less stress on the motherboard, and a high-resolution transient-sensing circuit monitors that flow of power for dips that can negatively impact system stability. This sensitive circuit can save hours of troubleshooting frustration in the event that the power supply can’t keep up.

ROG Strix: Take flight

From top to bottom, ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB graphics cards deliver powerful thermal designs and are optimized for the dynamic NVIDIA Ampere architecture.

A shroud with metal accents encompasses a trio of fans featuring the cutting-edge ASUS Axial-tech fan design: a more compact fan hub allows for longer fan blades, and full-height barrier rings provide boosted static pressure to pump air through the heatsink fins and onto the GPU heat spreader. A reversal of the center fan’s rotational direction lessens turbulence to enhance airflow efficiency. The fans and top of the graphics card are also illuminated by an addressable RGB element that can be customized with Armoury Crate software.

A large heatsink that fills most of the card’s 2.7-slot footprint was designed to leverage the increased airflow. To get heat up off the die and into the heatsink array, MaxContact technology has been utilized to polish the surface of the heat spreader and improve smoothness at the microscopic level. The extra flatness allows for better contact with the die for enhanced thermal transfer.

In addition to an enhanced cooling array, Super Alloy Power II components, including top-shelf capacitors, chokes and power stages, effortlessly deliver hundreds of watts at a millisecond’s notice. The card’s components are soldered to the PCB using ASUS-exclusive Auto-Extreme Technology to ensure precise joints and that each card meets rigorous ROG specifications for reliability.

Also included are FanConnect II headers that allow PWM fans to be tuned based on CPU and GPU temperatures, providing extra intake or exhaust for demanding 3D tasks and compute workloads. Builders looking for a quick and simple way to adjust their card’s default fan speeds can flick an onboard Dual BIOS switch to choose between “performance” and “quiet” profiles, without additional software. Another ease-of-use feature is an onboard voltage-sensing circuit that monitors PSU rail voltage. The circuit is fast enough to catch any transients that result in the rail voltage dropping too low. If that happens, a red LED will light up to indicate a power supply issue, making it easier to debug the source of crashes during gameplay.

Flipping the card around reveals more design improvements. For enhanced heat dissipation, a wide backplate vent and shortened PCB allow hot air to escape towards chassis exhaust fans instead of being recycled back into the cooler. Stainless steel is used for the I/O bracket to protect ports and provide a more secure mount. To top it off, an ROG logo with addressable RGB backlighting adds flair.

TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB graphics cards provide exceptionally robust power and cooling. An all-metal shroud houses three powerful Axial-tech fans that utilize durable dual ball fan bearings. Fan rotation has been optimized for reduced turbulence, and a stop mode brings all three fans to a halt at low temperatures. In line with the TUF Gaming legacy, components are selected based on their durability and performance. ASUS recently spoke with four content creators — a colorist, a cinematographer, an animator, and a high‑concept Unreal Engine filmmaker — to get their take on what it’s like working with the ASUS ProArt PA32UCX-PK monitor.

ASUS ProArt PA32UCX-PK is a 32-inch 4K HDR calibrated monitor that features variable mini‑LED backlighting and 1200 nits peak brightness. “It is vital that the monitor is calibrated and accurate to broadcast standards. My work is based around color, and if I don’t have an accurate representation of it I’m basically working blind,” says post-production colorist Darren Mostyn. “Good color performance means that I can rely on my monitor to give an accurate account of what I’m going to be sending to the broadcasters.”

Photographer and cinematographer Brett Danton works with 4K imagery every day, so the 4K HDR display with 1152-zone mini-LED backlighting and 1200 nits peak brightness of PA32UCX-PK are a perfect solution for him.

Before I received this monitor I could only judge my images by going to an expensive post house,” Danton explains. “I can now work confidently at home at a level that simply wasn’t possible before. Mumbai, India, January 14, 2021 — ASUS announced its new monitor lineup today at CES 2021, with a range of offerings across the Gaming, ProArt, and ZenScreen series to meet the needs of gamers, content creators, and business professionals. According to studies conducted by marketing research firm TrendForce, ASUS is projected to achieve a 40% year-on-year increase in monitor shipments, giving it the highest growth rate among the top 10 monitor brands for 2020.

 

For Gamers

ASUS is introducing 28-, 32- and 43-inch 144 Hz HDMI 2.1 gaming monitors for PC and console gamers. Ideal for PC gamers, these displays support the newest graphics cards for stable 4K gaming with refresh rates beyond 100 Hz. DisplayPort 1.4 Display Stream Compression (DSC) enables 4K visuals via a single DisplayPort 1.4 connection by compressing and decompressing each frame on the fly, with no discernable loss in image quality.

Console gamers can connect to the latest-generation consoles via HDMI 2.1 for 4K gaming at 120 Hz. These displays also feature Variable Refresh Rate technology and Auto-Low-Latency mode.

ROG Swift PG32UQ is a three-sided frameless monitor with a 32-inch 4K UHD IPS panel with a 144 Hz refresh rate and 1 ms moving picture response time (MPRT). It features G-SYNC technology with Reflex Latency Analyzer, a revolutionary system latency measurement tool that detects clicks coming from the mouse and then measures the time it takes for the resulting pixels (i.e. a gun muzzle flash) to change on screen. In addition, it features 98% DCI-P3 color space as well as VESA DisplayHDR 600 compliance, ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur (ELMB) Sync, and ASUS Variable Overdrive technologies.

ROG Strix XG43UQ is a 43-inch 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) gaming monitor with a 144 Hz refresh rate for super-smooth gaming visuals. It offers a host of features, including DSC, ASUS ELMB SYNC, and High Dynamic Range (HDR). ASUS ELMB SYNC eliminates smearing and motion blur, resulting in sharper moving visuals so gameplay is more fluid and responsive. The smallest of the three, TUF Gaming VG28UQL1A is a 28-inch 4K UHD monitor with a three-sided frameless design and a Fast IPS panel with a 144 Hz refresh rate and 1 ms response time. It features variable refresh rate technology for supersmooth gaming, along with 125% sRGB and 90% DCI-P3 color gamut, VESA DisplayHDR 400 compliance, ELMB SYNC and Variable Overdrive technologies.

Designed for competitive gamers, ROG Swift PG279QM is a 27-inch WQHD monitor with a 240 Hz Fast IPS panel with 1 ms (GTG). It features a G-SYNC processor with Reflex Latency Analyzer (RLA), DisplayHDR 400 compliance and DCI-P3 95%. It also includes ASUS-exclusive GamePlus and GameVisual software to provide gamers with an in-game advantage. PG279QM has Aura Sync lighting and can be paired with other Aura Sync-compatible products to create a gaming setup with a unified look. The compact and lightweight ROG Strix XG16AHP-W is a portable 15.6-inch FHD IPS gaming monitor with a 144 Hz refresh rate and adaptive-sync technology for smooth tear-free gameplay. It has a built-in high-capacity 7800 mAh battery that provides up to three hours of gaming at 144 Hz, and also has a quick-charge function that provides up to two hours of use after a one-hour recharge. ASUS ProArt Display PA148CTV is a 14-inch FHD IPS portable monitor with an anti-glare panel and capacitive 10-point multitouch. Designed for creators, it features the ASUS Dial and Virtual Control Panel to provide productivity-enhancing shortcuts and programmable hotkeys that work seamlessly with supported Adobe software including Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, Premiere Pro, and After Effects. PA148CTV is the world’s first Calman Verified portable monitor and it has a 100% sRGB and 100% Rec.709 color gamut. It is factory pre-calibrated with a Delta E < 2 color accuracy. It is Calman Verified and factory pre-calibrated to provide Delta E < 2 color accuracy, and it is also VESA DisplayHDR 400 compliant. In addition, ProArt Preset and ProArt Palette software are pre-loaded for swift and easy color adjustments. PA329CV has an array of connectivity options, including two HDMI, one DisplayPort, and one USB-C port DisplayPort Alt Mode, 90-watt power delivery and superfast data transfers. ASUS ZenScreen MB16ACV is a 15.6-inch FHD portable display with an anti-glare panel and super-narrow bezel design.
